This is MHA’s largest village, comprises 107 two-bedroom cottages and 2 one-bedroom cottages, and was completed in two phases, the first being 88 cottages built in 1995/6, with a community hall added subsequently, and the second phase across the road, being 24 cottages built in 2001. All cottages have adjoining single garages, and some have carports in addition.
In 2023 two adjacent cottages became vacant and were taken over by MHA to accommodate its Head Office which was previously in Westbourne Road, Central.
Aldersgate is situated on Pheasant Road, Greenshields Park, and is named after Aldersgate Street in London, where John Wesley had his “conversion” experience, and so continuing the Wesleyan thread in naming some of MHA’s villages.
Residents who wish to become involved with activities at the village may volunteer to serve on committees as follows:
Liaison Committee: Members on this committee are the link between residents and management, and assist with some operational functions.
Fellowship Committee: This committee arranges social functions such as:
- Bingo
- Scottish Country and Line Dancing
- Group visits to various restaurants
- Quizzes
- Braais
- Musical functions
- Fundraising events
- Crafting classes
- Teas
- Table Tennis
- Snooker
- The Aldersgate Singers
The village offers a monthly Blood Pressure Clinic, Church Services and weekly Biokinetics classes as well as hairdressing services for ladies and gents.
An extremely active village, Aldersgate residents run their own recycling project and are privileged to make use of nursing equipment kept at the village for their convenience. There is a well-stocked library on site, and every cottage has a Fibre connection (linking to an internet service provider is for a resident’s own account).
Two-course midday meals are available to residents daily, at a cost which is much less than if they were to prepare meals themselves.
