This facility is located on Gazania Avenue in the beautiful suburb of Sunridge Park, and comprises 36 apartments, with 10 having a separate bedroom and therefore being suitable for couples, and 26 being typical studio units (“bachelor flats”), and with all having a kitchenette and en suite facilities.  The units are occupied on a Life Right endowment basis.  They were constructed in 1998, and are named after Bob Zeiss, one of MHA’s driving forces, and long-serving Board Chairman and Director.

This apartment block, more commonly just referred to as “Bedsitters”, offers:

  • A caring and friendly atmosphere, where both privacy and community are provided
  • A safe, secure environment, with continuous external CCTV coverage of the perimeter with 24/7 offsite monitoring, internal CCTV cameras covering entrances and passages and monitored on site, electrified perimeter fencing and automated gates, and residents are linked to an external Armed Response and Medical Emergency service
  • Fibre connection in all apartments (linking to an internet service provider is for the resident’s own account)
  • A large and sunny communal lounge and patio, and a well-stocked library
  • A dining room where a midday meal is enjoyed (or delivered to the room in cases of illness)
  • Transport to the Walmer Park shopping centre weekly, in the MHA bus
  • A host of activities such as an in-house mini-gymnasium, bingo, card games, film shows and weekly exercise sessions
  • Entertainment by way of visiting musicians and others
  • A limited number of carports (occupation is subject to availability)
  • A weekly laundry service for bedding and towels
  • A self-help laundry for use by residents
  • A full-time careworker is allocated to assist residents with bathing, dressing, making up of beds and some similar tasks, if and when needed
  • Nursing staff are on call (24 hours) from the adjacent Frail Care, for emergencies
  • A part-time hairdresser and salon
  • A weekly room-cleaning service
  • Morning and afternoon tea, served in the lounge

 

All of the above, and in addition management expenses, most maintenance matters, building insurance, terrain lighting, municipal water and sewage charges, are covered via a monthly Levy charged to all residents (refer section headed Monthly Levy). Residents pay for electricity consumed in their apartment.
